Coin Nerds Cookie Policy
Last Updated: February 16, 2026
Previous Version: January 3, 2024
This Cookie Policy explains how Coin Nerds ("we", "us", "our") uses cookies and similar storage and access technologies (collectively, "Tracking Technologies") when you visit our websites located at coinnerds.com or any other websites, pages, features, or content we own or operate (collectively, the "Sites"). This Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your personal information more broadly.
For the purposes of this Policy, the data controller responsible for the Tracking Technologies deployed on our Sites is the Coin Nerds entity identified in the "Our Relationship to You" section of our Privacy Policy, based on your country of residence.
What Are Cookies and Tracking Technologies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They allow the website to recognize your device and store information about your preferences or past actions.
In addition to cookies, we may use other similar technologies, including:
- Pixels and tags: Small pieces of code embedded in web pages or emails that allow us and our advertising partners to track whether content has been viewed or interacted with.
- Local storage: Data stored in your browser's local storage or session storage, which persists until cleared by you or by the application.
- Device fingerprinting: Techniques that collect information about your device configuration (such as browser type, screen resolution, and installed plugins) to create a unique identifier.
All references to "cookies" in this Policy include these similar technologies unless stated otherwise.
Legal Framework
Our use of cookies is governed by the following laws and regulations, depending on your location:
- United Kingdom: The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 ("PECR"), as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025, and the UK General Data Protection Regulation ("UK GDPR"). PECR requires your consent before we place non-essential cookies on your device, subject to specific exemptions set out in Schedule A1 of PECR.
- European Economic Area: The ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) as implemented in each member state, and the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("EU GDPR"). Prior informed consent is required for all non-essential cookies.
- Canada: The Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA") and, for Quebec residents, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector ("Quebec Law 25"). Quebec Law 25 requires explicit, prior opt-in consent for all non-essential cookies and mandates the highest level of confidentiality by default.
- United States: The California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA/CPRA") and other applicable state privacy laws. While US law does not require opt-in consent for cookies, cookies used for targeted advertising or that result in the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information are subject to opt-out requirements.
Categories of Cookies We Use
We categorize the cookies and similar technologies on our Sites into the following groups:
1. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the operation of our Sites. They enable core functionality such as security, authentication, and session management. Without these cookies, the Sites cannot function properly. These cookies do not require your consent under applicable law.
- Authentication and session cookies that keep you logged in during your visit
- Security cookies that detect authentication abuse and prevent fraudulent use of login credentials
- Load-balancing cookies that distribute traffic across servers to ensure the Sites remain available
- Cookie consent preferences cookies that store your cookie choices
Legal basis: These cookies are exempt from the consent requirement as they are strictly necessary to provide the service you have requested (PECR Schedule A1, Paragraph 2; ePrivacy Directive Article 5(3) exemption).
Duration: Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent strictly necessary cookies are retained for up to 12 months.
2. Analytics and Performance Cookies
These cookies collect information about how visitors use our Sites, such as which pages are visited most often, time spent on pages, and any error messages encountered. This information is used to improve how our Sites work. We use Google Analytics for this purpose.
- Page view and navigation tracking to understand how users move through our Sites
- Performance monitoring to identify and fix technical issues
- A/B testing cookies to evaluate improvements to site features
Legal basis (UK): Under the DUAA amendments to PECR (Schedule A1, Paragraph 3), analytics cookies used solely for the purpose of improving the service may be placed without consent, provided that: (a) the data is not shared with third parties for independent purposes; (b) the organization provides clear information about their use; and (c) an easy, free opt-out mechanism is available. Where analytics data is shared with Google or used for purposes beyond improving our own Sites (such as cross-site audience measurement by Google), consent is required.
Legal basis (EEA and Quebec): Consent is required before these cookies are placed on your device.
Legal basis (US): These cookies do not constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information when used solely for our own analytics purposes.
Duration: Up to 24 months.
3. Functional and Preference Cookies
These cookies remember choices you make (such as language, currency, or region) and provide enhanced, personalized features. They may also be used to remember changes you have made to customizable parts of our Sites.
- Language and locale preference cookies
- Display preference cookies (e.g., theme, layout)
- Cookies that remember your previously entered form data
Legal basis (UK): Under the DUAA amendments to PECR (Schedule A1, Paragraph 4), cookies used solely for adapting the appearance or functionality of a service to a user's preference are exempt from consent, provided clear information and an easy opt-out are available. This exemption does not apply to cookies that choose content or advertisements based on browsing behaviour.
Legal basis (EEA and Quebec): Consent is required before these cookies are placed on your device.
Duration: Up to 12 months.
4. Advertising and Targeting Cookies
These cookies are used to deliver advertisements that are relevant to your interests. They are also used to limit the number of times you see an advertisement and to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns. These cookies track your browsing activity across our Sites and may track your activity across other websites. We use advertising pixels and tags from advertising partners, including Google Ads and other advertising platforms.
- Conversion tracking pixels that record when you complete an action after clicking an advertisement
- Remarketing cookies that enable advertising partners to show you Coin Nerds advertisements on other websites
- Audience measurement cookies used by advertising platforms to build profiles of your interests
Legal basis (UK and EEA): Consent is required before these cookies are placed on your device. Advertising cookies are not covered by any exemption under PECR Schedule A1.
Legal basis (Quebec): Explicit, prior opt-in consent is required.
Legal basis (US): The use of these cookies may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under the CCPA/CPRA and other state privacy laws. You have the right to opt out of this sharing. See "Your Choices" below.
Duration: Up to 24 months.
5. Social Media Cookies
If our Sites include social media features (such as share buttons or embedded content from social media platforms), those platforms may set cookies on your device. We do not control the cookies set by third-party social media platforms. Please refer to their respective privacy and cookie policies for information about how they process your data.
Legal basis: Consent is required before these cookies are placed on your device in the UK, EEA, and Quebec.
Duration: Varies by platform.
Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies on our Sites are set by third parties rather than by Coin Nerds. We use the following categories of third-party services that may place cookies on your device:
- Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics): To measure website usage and performance. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information about your use of our Sites, which is transmitted to and stored by Google. Google may use this information to compile reports on website activity and provide other services relating to website and internet usage. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Advertising platforms: To deliver targeted advertisements and measure advertising effectiveness. These platforms may combine information collected from our Sites with information collected from other websites to build profiles of your interests.
- Affiliate tracking services: To track whether users arrived at our Sites through an affiliate partner, so that we can appropriately credit the partner.
We require all third-party service providers to process your data in accordance with applicable data protection laws and our contractual obligations. However, once a third-party cookie is set, the third party's own privacy policy and cookie policy govern how they use the data collected.
Your Choices and How to Manage Cookies
You have several options for managing cookies and tracking technologies:
Cookie Consent Banner
When you first visit our Sites, we present a cookie consent banner that allows you to accept or reject non-essential cookies. You can also customize your preferences by category (analytics, functional, advertising). You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the cookie settings link in the footer of our Sites. Only strictly necessary cookies will be placed on your device before you make a choice. For visitors from Quebec, the EEA, and the UK, non-essential cookies are disabled by default until you provide your consent.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser transmits a GPC signal (via the Sec-GPC HTTP header or the navigator.globalPrivacyControl JavaScript API), we will treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information through advertising and targeting cookies. GPC is legally recognized in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, and other jurisdictions. You can enable GPC in browsers such as Firefox, Brave, and DuckDuckGo, or through browser extensions.
"Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" (US Residents)
If you are a US resident, you can opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information through advertising cookies by using the cookie consent banner, by enabling GPC in your browser, or by contacting us at [email protected]. We will confirm that your opt-out preference has been processed.
Browser Settings
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can set your browser to refuse all cookies, accept only certain cookies, or notify you when a cookie is being set. The method for managing cookies varies by browser. You can find instructions for popular browsers below:
Please note that if you disable or refuse cookies, some parts of our Sites may become inaccessible or not function properly. In particular, disabling strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from logging into your account.
Google Analytics Opt-Out
In addition to managing cookies through our consent banner or your browser settings, you can opt out of Google Analytics specifically by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Withdrawing Your Consent
You have the right to withdraw your consent to non-essential cookies at any time. To withdraw your consent:
- Click the cookie settings link in the footer of our Sites to reopen the cookie consent banner and change your preferences;
- Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies; or
- Enable the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing performed based on consent before the withdrawal. After you withdraw consent, we will stop placing the relevant non-essential cookies on your device. Existing cookies that have already been placed can be deleted through your browser settings.
Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals to websites. Because there is no universally accepted standard for how to interpret DNT signals, our Sites do not currently respond to browser DNT signals. However, we do honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals as described above, which is a technically defined standard with legal recognition in multiple jurisdictions.
Information Collected Through Cookies
Depending on the types of cookies you have consented to (or that are strictly necessary), the following categories of information may be collected:
- IP address and approximate geographic location derived from your IP address
- Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
- Pages visited, time spent on pages, links clicked, and referring URLs
- Date and time of your visit
- Unique cookie identifiers and device identifiers
- Interaction data related to advertisements (impressions, clicks, conversions)
- Your cookie consent preferences
Where this information can be linked to an identifiable individual (directly or in combination with other data), it constitutes personal information and is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy. The lawful basis for processing personal information collected through cookies is set out in the "Categories of Cookies We Use" section above.
Cookie Retention Periods
Cookies have varying lifespans:
- Session cookies: Deleted automatically when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies: Remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them. The maximum retention periods for each category are specified in the "Categories of Cookies We Use" section above.
You can delete all cookies stored on your device at any time through your browser settings.
Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use, changes in applicable law, or other operational reasons. When we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy on our Sites with a new "Last Updated" date and, where required by law, notify you through our cookie consent banner or other appropriate means. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
